Yeah, you're almost halfway there already. Try sharing a little, ask a question or two and by your next project, you will be where you want to be. On the way there you may find yourself in some unexpected places and find the journey to be more valuable than the destination.

OMG you guys are too much, lmao this is starting to sound like a soap opera.

As a newbie I too was upset {in the beginning} about the whole 50 posts entrance "fee" to the scripts vault.
Then one of sbtamu posts reminded me that I'm here for more than the free stuff.
That I'm here to learn from those who are willing to teach and hopefully from others mistakes {as well as my own}.
Then pass that usable info on to other newbies.

And lets be real here for a sec, 50 post isn't really all that much considering all you have to do is congratulate/thank anyone who has posted ANY information on here.

Thanks sbtamu for helping me keep my mouth shut before I stuck my foot in it...lmao

Actually it's been said a few times that the 50 or so posts have to actually "contribute" so "thanks" isn't going to cut it.

I also had a bit of a mixed feeling about the 50 post thing. Mostly because the scripts can make some things much easier/ better and one keeps seeing tutorials and there is some script that looks like a "I need that" thing.

But then I'm just learning the program and really it's just techno lust. I don't "need" any of the scripts till I can at least use the program decently out of the box. I would love to be able to see the posts in the section, even if I could not download because I think I would learn from them. But I suspect that it's not so simple to allow one in to the section but not allow them to download.

Also 50 posts is only a lot if your so new to it all that you don't really even know enough to ask a decent question. That is kind of me at the moment but I still found some things to post that might be useful.

now if there were a sound section I could run up the numbers much quicker...

Cheers

Sound is extremely important to animation, IMHO, Scott, so anything you ever want to post about how you work with it would be very valuable to all our members.

Good point but they were not old to me because I just got here. Don't count them if you want I wasn't posting to run up numbers. And truthfully I wasn't paying attention to the last posted date. This topic for instance is something I wouldn't be posting on if I had 500 posts, but pops right to the front if you just join.

Mike,

Where would be the right place to post sound topics?

I've don't post on quite a few films, though not too many animations, and I taught sound for film before I moved out here to the buckle on the rust belt.

I still do a fair amount of sound and a lot of consulting.

Well, if you want to comment on anyone's specific animation, of course, that topic would be appropriate.

For sound tips/tricks/comments in general, General Animation / Techniques is probably most appropriate (or if it's about specific sound software you could use the General Animation / Other Software forum).

We've tried to minimize the sub-forums because far too many such sites have so many sub-forums it's easy to get lost, but I think things can still fit in most places.

Thanks.

I have an overview of sound post flow that might be of interest.

I just got back in town and have some things that need to get out the door but I will post something and see if there is interest.

Well, I can't tell you exactly, but both Wes and I have been known to "subtract" post counts when they are just "good job!" or a comment on a very old thread that adds nothing to the discussion. This is why, in general, it's impossible for someone to artificially inflate their post counts just to reach 50. As long as you are posting because you want help or you want to help by adding to the discussions you should never run into this.

We try and keep track pretty much over what starting members contribute and which ones don't, and the count is NEVER absolute (which is to say that even if your count is 50 or more that's no guarantee you will get access to the VIP section, nor does it mean with less posts that you can't gain admittance) but it's also handy to do these sorts of adjustments to help us remember. I didn't adjust your counts but it's very possible Wes did.

That was me, Teccom.

As a rule of thumb (for me anyway) when I check the active topics to find that there are a lot more than usual, and most of these are by one person resurrecting old threads or not saying much more than "cool", I usually decrease their post count (just for my own bookkeeping toward VIP access).

We generally do not count comments on other people's work toward VIP access, unless they are substantial and/or helpful. Like YouTube comments, these tend to be mostly just noise in any discussion. Granted, people like to know their work is liked, but it would also mean more if you have shared some of your own work, so people know from what experience you may be speaking.

I think a change in how the 50 rule is worded would help. More like 50 helpful posts or questions.
