The suggestion was made and seconded that we start our collaborative project anew, but for the sake of anyone who hasn't read the original thread I'll summarize the rules (however, I'd suggest anyone interested in participating go back and look at that thread and perhaps watch how the project evolves as it will help understand what to do and what not to do).

There are two characters -- Joe, the plumber, and Wilma the cab driver. They are both in the park but either or both of them can start offscreen (IOW, they both must end up in the park at the end of the first segment). They do not necessarily have a relationship with each other (in the previous video they were married, but they could start off as strangers here, or best friends, or brother and sister, or married).

The following rules MUST be obeyed (or it will be rejected, with me as the bad guy and arbiter of what did or didn't follow the rules):

1) You cannot introduce any new characters (so, just the two of them). That doesn't mean one or both might leave the scene at some time. And your characters don't have to look like the characters someone else drew, they can even have different clothes and ethnicity. But they are still Joe and Wilma.

2) You cannot introduce a new set (so we MUST stay in the park). You can show different aspects of the park, and your park doesn't have to look like the park that came before, but it must stay IN the park.

3) You MUST respect what has come before. So if a character says he's feeling poorly you cannot simply ignore this fact in your own contribution. ANYTHING which has happened before is truth, and while you can be creative on how you interpret it you cannot deny it.

What this means is that if Joe says he's a Martian somewhere along the line you can't pretend this didn't happen. Now, you can interpret this to mean that Joe only *thinks* he's a Martian, or that he was fooling when he said it, but he did say it. And note that ignoring something is the same as denying it -- just as if you were having a conversation with your best friend and he told you his brother just died you wouldn't start talking about how your favorite baseball team was doing (well, you *might* if you were a cold-hearted jerk but that's not what we're trying to accomplish here). Respecting what has come before means that you take that information and build on it.

The following rules are STRONGLY suggested (but your submission will not be rejected if you violate them):

1) Keep it under a minute. The longer you go, the harder it will be for someone to follow you.

2) Try and invite participation by leaving it open-ended. It's far better to end your story with "and then something wonderful happened!" then to say "and then they all lived happily ever after!". Note that in the first case it's easy to add something on, but in the second case it's almost impossible.

3) Use the HDTV 720p output settings in Anime Studio (oh, and use Anime Studio, although you can use other programs to augment your animation as you wish). Keeping it all the same format makes it easy to put it all together. You can output in any format you want, but I'd suggest MP4.

4) Once you say "it's my turn next" and are acknowledged by me you have 48 hours to finish and submit your animation. Obviously life and things have a way of happening and you may not be able to do it, but try as much as possible so we can keep the momentum going.

That's about it. I will try and stay out of this as long as I can because I'd like to allow those folks who didn't participate in the first thread to get a chance here. But everyone who did participate should also feel free to take a turn here as well.

And have fun!! No matter what you do (and that goes for everyone who participated in the first one) it's fun and interesting to watch, and I hope it's as much fun to do (otherwise, what's the point?)

Well, at first I thought this had not been spotted by anyone, however, there are plenty of views...

Since we seem to have a shortage of eager volunteers I stand ready to begin an intro. Will use some previous assets. With your permission, can start tomorrow.

My coming week seems to be almost empty of demands on my time, May I offer to follow rocky53204. Bearing in mind that you Mike wont be around for a few days, that might fit in nicely.

I realize that I will be working in the dark as I will not know rocky53204's development of the story. But, that will add to my challenge.

Please let me know if I have the second step, so I can get to work on it.

Wena,

You can have it, Wena, but don't do *anything* on it until you see what Rocky does. Remember, you MUST respect what he has done and he's sure to leave you in a certain place you need to build on (that's really the whole point here).

Just like you can't answer someone until you hear their question, you can't add on to an improv piece like this until you see what has come before. The biggest mistake people make in improve is trying to "force" the story in a certain direction. That for sure will lead to failure.

Okay, great start!

Wena, you're next (and don't forget to address the issue Rocky just raised, namely, Wilma's habitual lateness).

The project so far:

(for some reason I can't get the embed to work here -- YouTube keeps changing the rules at times)

The only thing I'm not *quite* sure of is what Wilma says about the Chief of Police... "The Chief of police is always...[something]". I get that the Chief keeps her from speeding, and that he has a motorcade (with motorcycles) that makes it tough for her to be on time (or at least that's her excuse). I'm just not sure if I'm missing something else (but perhaps whoever is next already understands).

In any case, Joe seems to understand and accept this, and that is where we are at so far. Is anyone interested in having a go?

Mike, if you remove the "&feature=youtu.be" part of the link it will work. You can access this url by hitting the YT share button, options, and check "long link".

I can't make out most of the audio either. Wena, can you post the text of the dialog?

Thanks, Wes, did not know that (of course, YOU could have edited my post as well :>).

Jonbo -- I can make out all but that one word. She says she's late because the Police Chief {something) every time she gets a fare, and she can't speed then (he also has a motorcade escort most of the time).

At first I thought she was saying the Police Chief WAS her fare, but I don't think that's it -- most likely he just keeps an eye on her or something.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubbing_ filmmaking

Re-dub of vocal track seems mandatory. Perhaps Wena can furnish a transcript which someone can re-dub.

The animation part is fine, clearly there are sound issues. Sound is a sometimes difficult workaround in Anime Studio for sure.

No shame to a re-dub, it's done frequently in commercial animation and film production.

Nope, I tried. Probably a good idea, generally, to have the main forum admin's posts inviolate even to other admins, especially how often forums seem to splinter. I assumed it was intentional in the forum software.
